For Parents, by a Parent
Philip 'Phil' Barrar is a repeat FinTech founder building financially inclusive products with a knack for helping people achieve their financial goals. After selling the leading Canadian investment app Moka to Mogo for $64 million, he founded FutureMoney to help empower parents to take control of their finances and secure a better future for the child they love.

The Big What If?
What happens when a loved one dies? What happens to their investments, your childhood home, the family car? What about the mortgage and loan payments? Where are all their documents? What if you're missing something?
Rewind...
What if all their critical financial account information and vital documents were securely stored somewhere that you could flawlessly access when needed?
Helping Families When They Need It the Most
Phil enlisted us to build a vault feature for FutureMoney's intergenerational micro-investment platform that allows families to manage their money together in one centralized location. The goal? To enable family members to securely store critical financial account information and vital documents - thereby creating an emergency binder to aid loved ones in accessing important information when it's most needed. This feature is particularly invaluable in scenarios where a spouse or parent is incapacitated or deceased, preventing potential financial disruptions like missed payments, account freezes, or even asset forfeiture. By centralizing safe, straightforward, and easily accessible information, families can concentrate on what truly matters.

Branding
Engaging mental associations to security and accessibility (rather than spooky Harry Potter-esque underground chambers), we renamed the vault as SafeDoc. Hosted within the FutureMoney application, the longterm vision is for SafeDoc to become a seperate sister application.

Secure access is set up through a quick onboarding process that introduces first-time users to SafeDoc.

Accessible Anytime & Anywhere
With a SafeDoc account, users can have their important documents within arm's reach - anywhere and always. Within the FutureMoney application, we created three main access points accounting for different frequency of use cases. A CTA on the application's home page targets new users. A permanent button under Account assumes consistent but infrequent engagement (the once-a-year document updates). An 'Add document to SafeDoc' addition to the application's 'Add' functionality provides ease for frequent document uploading. Once launched, A/B testing will determine traffic levels for each access point.

Betsy Not Boat...
Cottage instead of Secondary Residence, Apartment instead of Primary Residence, Jeep or Van instead of Vehicles... personalized categorization offers intuitive file management. Rather than generalized broad categories, we choose to create categories based directly on the user's own documents. For most files, this eliminated one extra step in accessing specific documents.

Let AI Do the Boring Part
File organization is assisted by built-in AI suggestions directly in the uploading process.
Need It Now? No Problem. We also included an AI-assisted search function to help users find what they need ASAP, whether at home or on the go.

Share Documents With the People That Matter
Say your son, Noah, helps manage the family cottage or is planning a group vacation. By linking accounts within SafeDoc, you can easily grant Noah access to the relevant documents he needs (as view-only, of course). The toggle switch allows for easy management of these viewing permissions.

Request and Send Documents Instantly
In need of your partner's passport to book those flights? You can send a document request through SafeDoc, which allows the recipient to instantly and securely share the corresponding document, if accepted.

Sending Requests:
Under a profile in Permissions, you can manage viewing permissions by category or send a personalized request for a specific document.

Recieving requests:
The Requests page displays your active document requests, as well as a comprehensive overview of past document requests with easy on-off toggles to stop or start sharing.

Leave It All in Safe Hands
Within the app, you can effortlessly appoint successors: a person or people who would be granted access to all your documents in the case of your death. Once appointed, the legal team at SafeDoc will take care of the rest and allow you, your partner, children, or whoever you may choose, an easier transition if the time comes.

A Vault for Everyday Families
After rigorous user testing, we delivered a high fidelity prototype of SafeDoc to Phil Barrar, founder and CEO of FutureMoney. The secure and user-friendly vault feature will be rolled out in following updates. It's been an honour to equip families for worst-case scenarios and help them more seamlessly navigate everyday situations.
